New option lets AirAsia customers skip check-in counters at airports

SINGAPORE - From tomorrow, travellers flying on AirAsia can proceed directly to the departure gates at airports with a new option called Go-To-Gate.

It is available for those who do not need a visa or other entry requirements, and they must have checked in online, have a valid printed boarding pass and only hand-carry baggage.

In line with Changi Airport Group's (CAG) fast and seamless travel (FAST) initiatives, Go-To-Gate is aimed at enhancing travellers' experience by reducing waiting time, AirAsia Singapore said in a statement today.

"We are constantly looking into introducing news ways to enhance our guests' travelling experience, as well as to empower our guests to take control of their end-to-end travel experience. These initiatives translate to cost savings for us, which in turn mean lower fares for our guests. We hope to have a stronger grasp on the business traveller segment through these initiatives," AirAsia Singapore CEO Logan Velaitham said.

The airline will be introducing other automation features, namely, self check-in, self- and home-tagging, and a self-bag drop.
